This resonated with me. As a physician-scientist, I think dynamic equilibrium is one of the most elegant concepts in biology as health is rarely a static state but it’s an ongoing process of adaptation. Virtually every physiological system operates through continuous balancing acts: bone is constantly remodeled, the immune system calibrates between defense and tolerance, the gut microbiome shifts in response to diet and environment, and even our brains continuously rewire through neuroplasticity. Aging itself can be viewed as a gradual loss of this adaptive capacity rather than the failure of a single organ.

I also find this idea reassuring as it shifts the focus away from perfection. Health is about preserving resilience, the ability to respond to challenges and return to balance. In many ways, that resilience is a more meaningful marker of health than any isolated measurement.

Perhaps that’s one of the most profound lessons from physiology: life isn’t sustained by rigidity, but by continuous, intelligent adaptation. Dynamic equilibrium is a beautiful way to think about living well.

Thanks again!

Enjoying the phrase “dynamic equilibrium” as it carries more truth than most wellness language. Health, in my understanding, means absorbing disturbance, reorganizing, and finding a workable return. I’m curious whether you see resilience as the capacity to return to baseline, or the capacity to establish a wiser new baseline after the system has changed.

i think it could be either. I do know from looking at the antibiotics research, however, that there are some antibiotics that the microbiome never recovers from so it does get a new equilibrium, but it often isn’t the healthiest equilibrium. I think that was the case with John in his early years before Parkinson’s. He had many childhood strep infections.

Did John have weight lifting regimen in his program ,after covid ?

I noticed a 2x per week careful* weight lifting regimen actually mimicked why, paradoxically I had loved heavy baggage on a bike ,or tandem ,in rainforests & deserts .12-16l water anyway for daily use meant carrying more than conventional transport mores ( Shell/BP) imagines useful ( conceptually) ,in travel - either in peace or wartime .Barest minimum between 2 pple ,in wilds .

Stem cell regeneration ,at 55 plus years is not talked about much .

But spirulina plus amantadine https://www.researchgate.net/publication/281255582_Neuroprotective_effect_of_Spirulina_fusiform_and_amantadine_in_the_6-OHDA_induced_Parkinsonism_in_rats

had a 78% diferential than with spirulina alone .

*I had to stop a weight training regimen for 5 years after the 2021 feb version of 'covid' which was closer to symptoms of polio .

Having 3 hernias to contend with previously ,prior to 2021 - meant such WT pretty carefully managed ,had spectacular stabilisation 'distally ' result .

Because as string player - distal limb synergy is much more crucial to any resolution question than proximal - which is where monomedical models fail most spectacularly ,in rehabilitation ,of even something like a 3 bone torsion break in forearm ,elbow - which - with healthy use of liberal DMSO refocuses the distal issue as spectacularly as WT .

And because parkinsonism in bow arm is so generally prevalent in all pro string situations - spirulina has -in water solution some basic 'ground tone' relevance .

We did start working with a trainer in 2023-2024 listing weight bit had to take a break and then he was working with a physical therapist, but his strength was pretty low

I had never worked with a weight 'trainer' .

Might have had something to do with Philippe Hirshorn at 35 ,winter ,no warm up - grabbing my violin & bow during a lesson (post grad) playing a resonant bow richochet each note like a tashkent plum, falling to the ground .. .

Paganini 1st caprice in west /israel always 'performed' faster .

Difference was PH did an alternating pistolet ,changing heels once per bar ,though twice was implied in practise . Anti performance epitomised .

No western recording matched the quality of that live demonstration , a muttered 'talent is an excuse ' ,thereafter - many decades before Trump positioned himself into renouncing Epstein .

The other -30 years later ,involved a 53 yr old azeri at an outside barbecue ,late fall ,northern europe .

He ,(not a performance) - spontaneously ,mid conversation - sprang up ,perfect splits at 2m - sidesaddled hips (still at 180degrees) ,sailed impossibly slowly to ground ,knicking in heel and toe (street clothes) at moment of concrete tile impact .Zero injury ;even chinese circus extreme acrobats dont dare do that ,so 'lucidly' .

Nureyev couldnt do that .No western dancer could .

At any age .

So the idea of a 'trainer ' knowing anything more than these two demonstrations , might also sum up why many gruelling stage shows ,(posing as pop singing ) utilises 'ceiling eyed' multi resistance bands climbing belt strap arrangement on a mini trampoline ,to slow down any movement to minimum ,defeating strength ,reflex conundrums

It was Belgradian revalidation therapists who showed ,over a decade- how sport or movement itself 'itself' injures ,unless distally compensated .

Let alone art(s)

The polio post covid 2021 revalidation was based on not trusting the water(any water ) ,except where it sprang up from a 10 000 years old ,underground sandy pressured system ,between clay layers .

I,for 2 years subsequent - took a MTB bike trailer for 2x 20l refils so regularly ,even with weakness ,that even though not being able to walk 50m without both arms turning very close to dark

blue - I had no reason to believe anything Fauci ,or his clones ,had to say .

Thank-you for this, really enjoy your writing. Enjoyed your book too! Husband hasn't been diagnosed but pretty sure he has PD. Curious why Dr Mischley recommends not eating much red meat, is it because of the meds people are taking? Husband did strict carnivore & his voice came back, creatine has helped him put on 10lbs of muscle. Started on Sugar Shift a few weeks ago, hoping that will help him too. My 15 year old dog likes to eat dirt, I believe he is trying to improve his microbiome, tried many things for him but he keeps going back to the dirt.

I think one of the things that is missing in the dietary recommendation world is a deeper understanding of us as individuals, and where our ancestry came from. I also think her recommending against red meat could very well be connected to the fact that so much of our meat is not high-quality. It’s raised in CAFO‘s with antibiotics and feed that is less than desirable. I know many people who go carnivore that have significant turnaround in their health issues. Most of them are not Parkinson’s. I think it is because you can get a full compliment of the amino acid in the protein, and the animal has already processed a good portion of the toxic load. I do know one gentleman with Parkinson’s, who went on a ketogenic diet and also did a 60 day water fast and reversed all of his symptoms, but he had a lot of excess weight. More often I find people with Parkinson’s with a thin body phenotype. As for the dog, I agree with you on eating dirt and trying to perhaps get some soil microbes.
